Sophie and Kia Interview

You may recognise them as Kristi and Stevie from The Saddle Club. But now, it's time to meet the girls behind the characters. Kia and Sophie, and what better way to get to know them than by listening to their new self titled album...

Tell us a little bit about your new album.

Kia: Nobody has ever heard us sing as ourselves so this album is very different, very mature and it has a totally different sound to what our fans might expect. It has lots of guitar rifts in it, giving it a rock feet. So it's more our taste in music.

Sophie: It's something brand new for us and for our fans. It's completely different to what we did for The Saddle Club because this time we're not portraying characters anymore, we're portraying ourselves.

What kind of songs will feature on the album?

Kia: We have written a lot of the songs ourselves, and it's been a really interesting experience to go from one simple lyric to creating an entire story in each song. The overall feel of the album is that it is full of energy, and it's kind of explosive.

Sophie: The album kind of explores our lives and what we've gone through to get here. We wanted as much variety as possible to come across in our music.

Do you sing all of the songs together or are there songs that you both sing individually?

Kia: There's a mixture. “Planet Tokyo” we sing together and there will be a couple of solo songs on the album, but we're Sophie and Kia, we are a team, so we mostly sing together.

What is your favourite song from the album?

Sophie: I think that almost every song on the album has something unique to it that I love, and I don't know if I could pick a favourite but Planet Tokyo is definitely out there and that's why we're releasing it as our first single from the album.

How are you feeling about moving on and working on other projects without your other Saddle Club cast mates there?

Kia: We're singers and we're actors, so we are employed to portray a certain character, and now we are moving forward with our careers and having a go at something different, but it's not sad because we will always be friends with the other girls no matter what.

Sophie: There's only so much sadness in it, especially because The Saddle Club was a series, which means we've been working with the same people for almost five years and that's a long time.

What's going to happen newt with The Saddle Club?

Kia: There's been talk of a movie but we haven't been involved in any of the discussions about that, so our main focus has been on our music.

Now you girls are only 16-years-old. How are you juggling, work, schoolwork and a social life?

Kia: From a really young age we've been acting, so as far as education goes, we've never gone to school for a long period of time.

Sophie: As much as you can look at it and think wow, that's quite a handful, this is what we love to do, you couldn't do this if you didn't want it. So we work as hard as we can to get to where we want to be.

Kia: Yeah, we're normal people, we just choose to live a slightly different lifestyle to what most people our age live. We do regular things like see our friends, spend time with our families and we have to clean our room too!

What have been the best part of the whole experience?

Kia: The overall experience of knowing what goes into making a CD. With singing the whole process is so personal so just to have this opportunity to make this CD was definitely the best part of it all.

Sophie: This is what I've always wanted to do, and to be able to do something that you truly love, and to wake up in the morning and just look forward to working on it is a great thing. But the best part about that was being able to do it together, it just made the whole experience that much better.
